How to Replace an audi remote key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and audi car Key replacement cost (historydb.date) Intake Camshaft are out of sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two connector pins and they perform different functions but the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and audi a3 Keys the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero Ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU
